White Knights junior Vismith Prabhu scored 5 out of 6 at this year’s AO Jones Rapidplay, finishing equal first alongside Moss McCarthy and Adam Woodruff.

At just 15 years old, Vismith is likely the youngest winner in the tournament’s history, and only the second junior ever to take the title.

His performance was consistent and composed across all six rounds. He played some of the region’s strongest players and came out with five wins, including victories against:

  • Sam Jukes in Round 3

  • Bill Hewitt on top board in Round 4

  • Ian Jones — 13-time AO Jones champion — in Round 5

These three wins put Vismith in sole lead going into the final round, where he lost to Moss McCarthy. That result brought the top three into a tie on 5 points.

Round 4 - Black vs Bill Hewitt (2041 WCU Rating)

Round 5 - White vs Ian Jones (1967 WCU Rating)

Game continued beyond move 40, but notation ended at move 40.

Club results

Other strong results came from White Knights players Alan Young and Bill Hewitt, who drew in the final round. Alan finished on 4.5, while Bill scored 4.

This was one of the best performances we’ve seen from a White Knights junior at a regional event. Vismith’s play was calm and mature, and his result was well deserved.

We look forward to seeing what comes next.
