White Knights Players Shine at WCU Spring Chess Congress

It was a very successful weekend for White Knights players at the WCU Spring Chess Congress held in Cardiff on 7th and 8th March 2026. Several club members produced strong performances across the different sections, with one particularly special achievement for one of our youngest players.

In the Open tournament, Bill Hewitt had an excellent event, finishing on 3.5 points and remaining undefeated throughout the competition. It was a very solid performance against strong opposition and a great result for the club.

Josh also performed well, scoring 3 points in what was his first ever competition in the Major section. Competing at this level for the first time can be challenging, and Josh showed great determination and fighting spirit across the weekend.

The biggest news of all, however, is that White Knights now has a Welsh Chess Champion.

Cynan, playing in his first ever graded competition, produced an outstanding performance in the Welsh Under 11 Championship. With three wins and two draws he finished on 4 points to share first place and become joint Welsh Under 11 Champion.

This is an incredible achievement, especially in a first rated tournament, and everyone at White Knights Chess Club is extremely proud of Cynan and what he has accomplished.
